The Barbara Bates Center for The Study of The History of Nursing is the preeminent nursing history archive and research center in the world. Our priority is to increase understanding of the importance of nursing history and healthcare to the development of effective health policy and patient care strategies.
We invite you to join us as we examine topics on nursing and healthcare history and their policy implications from the perspective of nursing; a perspective not often discussed in the public arena. We created this blog to fill a vacuum in knowledge about the rich history of nursing. The blog links those topics, history, and public policy together. Knowing what has gone before and how that affects the creation, design, and implementation of public policy is essential for enacting policies that advance the public’s health. We offer analysis, commentary, and discussion of the ways in which nursing history shaped the healthcare system today, and how such knowledge can be used to form healthcare policy of tomorrow.
